Lolita the Lively

Lolita, a 94 year-old German who has lived in many countries such as Portugal, Israel, and the United States, is a woman of many cultures. She has travelled the world extensively and could be considered a true world citizen.

Lolita is a relative of a friend of mine, Michelle, and recently visited her here in North Carolina. Before her arrival I had heard many great things about Lolita and, thanks to Michelle’s invite, I was granted the wonderful opportunity of finally meeting Lolita this past Saturday.

The chance to be able to meet such a long-living woman who has maintained good health and a positive attitude all her life was simply enchanting. I was very curious to hear about her life style and learn her secret to such a long, happy life. Her secret was demonstrated through her stories and examples of life experiences that she shared with me

1.         She knows she has great genes, which is the most important factor!

2.         Lolita had good, stable relationships with her loved ones, and especially with her husband of 60 years. She thinks good relationships improve longevity. She is an open-minded woman who doesn’t confine relationships to only heterosexual couples!

3.         She believes that one must move on. Anything can happen but after a while we all need to leave it behind and look forward to new beginnings.

4.         She said she never dieted! She eats anything but knows her dose and keeps a stable nutritional balance. She says moderation is key.

5.         She also believes that exercise is an essential part of life. She is a yoga addict, but she also accepts that going without exercise for a couple of days is not the end of the world. Just pick up from where you left off!

From the things that Lolita shared with me, I have come to the conclusion that she is a true natural phenomenon. She is the epitome of a role model for those who seek to live a longer, happier, and healthier life. Her stories as well as the experiences she has shared with me prove that no matter how old a person is or where they live, it is always possible to keep an open mind and lead a successful and satisfactory life.

Yummy lunch at Michelle’s back yard!

  1. Lovely article…My mother’s aunt is 95 years old and she has other relatives who lived up to their 90’s..So I agree completely that genes is the most important factor…From what I know, they did not really diet or exercise..So since I am in the same family, I hope the same gene pool will help me..By the way, I just read about the health benefits of coconut juice…

  2. I think genes and clean air, natural foods and a relaxed way of living are very important. Many people in Bodrum live up to their nineties. They mostly consume olive oil, fresh and natural fruits and vegetables, fish, walnut and almond, home made tomatoe and red pepper sauces, cheese and yogourt made of free-lving cows, goats and sheep, eggs, and too much of parsley, sage, rosemary & thyme… And they enjoy life..

  3. Thanks for the interesting story of Lolita.

I also do not diet. I eat as in Levent’s list. I dance a lot, usually vigorous dances.

For me, it is not about genes. It depends on how you treat yourself. You can beat BAD genes, or you can ruin GOOD genes. Human body has a lot of potential to heal itself. That is the miracle of nature that I admire and appreciate.

  4. Amazing woman! It seems there’s always a way to face life on a calm down basis. We just got to go for it! Genes, food, excersice, etc., make only a part, the big rest of everything is about love to life!

  5. Absolutely wonderful and uplifting. My eldest aunt is 97, and like Lolita, moderation was part and parcel of her life while eating an Italian menu of delights. Thanks for sharing this great article!
