I go to a neighborhood café whenever I get the chance. I feel I am more productive when I sit down and write there. Since I go there often, I have had the chance to get to know some of the regulars like myself. One of these regulars is Lucien Provencher. And this is about Lucien’s online story!

He is a thirty-something year old, educated, and sociable person who has spinal disabilities. Not too long ago Lucien decided to check out online dating sites to find himself a soul mate. After trying it for a while he realized he couldn’t find anyone locally so he decided to venture into international match-making sites. Through this, he met a woman in Russia and even visited her country to meet her in person but it didn’t work out. Meanwhile, he kept in touch with another Russian woman named Kate who he regarded as a friend. Through Kate he met several other people, one of who was a girl named Helen who Lucien kept in touch with for just a short while. He then finally met a Ukranian woman with whom he kept a relationship with for a while and decided to meet in person. He had to travel Ukraine to meet her. However, when he was in downtown Odessa, something unusual happened that was not in the original plan.

A woman he had never met before called his name as if she had known him for years. Yes, someone he had never met in person called his name in a foreign country and eventually they became good friends. Anything of this nature is possible, and it is all thanks to the Internet. The woman who called Lucien’s name was Helen, whom he knew through Kate’s Facebook connections. The bottom line of this story is that the Internet is bigger than life. Because of the Internet, we connect more, keep relationships we make, and share more. It creates an inevitable transparency throughout the world. We don’t know if his relationship with his Ukranian girlfriend worked out or not, but he returned home and a few months later, he got a letter in the mail from Helen offering Lucien a teaching job in Ukraine! Lucien accepted the position immediately!

It is an interesting online story partly due to Internet and the coincidences he experienced. We now recognize people through Facebook or other social media!

Lucien is an educated and very clever person. He suffered a spinal cord injury when he was two years old and has thus been confined to a wheel chair ever since. When he was in his twenties, he went through a period of depression, but he has grown out of it and now says that he is always a positive thinker, and strives to be a sociable person who continues to go after his dreams. Go for it, Lucien! Be a great influence to those with disabilities all over the world. You all can do it! I hope you like Lucien’s online story.
